How Can Our Foot Health Practitioners Help?
Foot health care is the professional care of the skin and nails of your feet.
Please note: our foot health practitioners do not treat plantar fasciitis, heel pain or any other joint, tendon or muscle problem. Those conditions are treated by our MSK team, so please book here.
Our foot health practitioners treat everyday skin and nail problems, including corns, calluses, hard skin, cracked heels, verrucas, athlete’s foot, fungal nails, ingrown toenails and routine diabetic foot care.
Treatment combines hands-on skill with the right equipment: sterile instruments, specialist nail care tools and evidence-based verruca treatments.
Alongside fixing the immediate problem, we’ll give you the self-care guidance to keep your feet comfortable long-term.
The Reality of Foot Problems That Most People Just Put Up With...
- Every Step Is Uncomfortable
A corn that rubs in every shoe. A nail that digs in. A verruca on the ball of your foot. Small problems have a way of taking the comfort out of every step, until you notice your feet all day long.
- Home Remedies Only Go So Far
Chemist plasters, filing and over-the-counter treatments soften things for a week, then the problem is back in exactly the same spot. You’ve started to wonder what it would take to actually fix it.
- You're Self-Conscious About Your Feet
Open-toed shoes. The beach. A pedicure. Even taking your shoes off at a friend’s house. Thick skin, cracks and discoloured nails have quietly made you self-conscious about feet you used to never think about.
Here at Hellier Health, we understand the frustration.
It’s why our foot health practitioners in Great Dunmow look after the skin and nails of your feet.
Treatment that sorts the problem there and then, with advice to stop it coming back.
How Does Foot Health Treatment Work?
At your first appointment, your foot health practitioner will examine the skin & nails of your feet, listen to your history and explain exactly what's causing the issue. You'll leave knowing what the problem is and the treatment options.
We commence with treatment, whether that's removing a corn, treating an ingrown nail or clearing a verruca. For longer treatments we'll book a dedicated appointment.
We'll send you home with a clear plan to keep your feet healthy: the right footwear, simple self-care routines and when to come back. Many patients see us regularly for routine nail and skin care.

I was lucky enough to see Charlotte about my old lady knees that have been dreadful lately and was fully expecting her to inform me that they need replacing. Instead she calmly and informatively explained what is going on and that by doing the exercises she fully demonstrated and got me to try and with regular ultrasound scans, I should regain full mobility with minimum pain. I will admit I was not particularly looking forward to the session, but after spending the time with Charlotte and having my questions answered thoroughly and being calmly advised, I am really hopeful that together we can help ensure I walk tall and hobble no more!![]()

I struggled with plantar fasciitis for four months. A course of 6 sessions of shock wave therapy from Charlotte & Jason has made huge improvements. I'm back walking the golf course and largely untroubled by what was previously a chronic problem. I've received great care and treatment and would be happy to recommend.![]()

My practitioner Charlotte, has continued the good work of this practice. Her observations of my stance and her listening capacity seem as important as the therapy she applies. In all these applied skills, find me at last in a good place. I have recommended her to my wife Diane and to a dear friend Shirley after a nasty fall in Spain. All will recommend Charlotte as their preferred Osteopath.. Grateful thanks. A. L. Baker.![]()

I was assessed and by Charlotte who was really thorough and showed full understanding of my issue. Her treatment plan for me included shockwave therapy and exercises for me to do at home. I had sought help for plantar fasciitis from other professionals but Charlotte was by far the most thorough. I had 3 sessions and it has made a world of difference. I have recommended her to friends and I wouldn’t hesitate to seek her help again.![]()

I’m 18 and a keen runner. After a big block of training I got a really stubborn knee injury that just didn’t seem to go away for months. I went to Great Dunmow Osteopathy & Health and did their knee pain programme which included focused shockwave therapy. I couldn’t believe how quickly the pain started to go away. That combined with a rehabilitation exercise programme Charlotte gave me meant I was pain free and back to running in just a few weeks! If you are in pain don’t waste anymore time, these guys will get you fixed very quickly.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Frequently Asked Questions
About Foot Health
Foot health is the specialist care of the skin and nails of the feet. Our foot health practitioners are trained to assess and treat everyday problems like corns, hard skin, cracked heels, verrucas, fungal nails and ingrown toenails, as well as routine diabetic foot care. They do not treat joint, tendon or muscle problems such as plantar fasciitis. Those are treated by our MSK team.
Foot health treats skin and nail problems of the feet, including:
- Nail problems: ingrown toenails, fungal nail infections, thickened nails and routine nail cutting
- Skin problems: corns, calluses, hard skin and cracked heels
- Verrucas and athlete's foot
- Diabetic foot care: skin and nail checks, routine care and footwear advice
- Routine care for older patients and children's skin and nail problems
Not a foot health appointment: plantar fasciitis, heel pain, Achilles problems and Morton's neuroma. These are treated by our MSK team, so please book with one of our MSK practitioners instead.
If you're not sure whether foot health is right for your problem, give us a call for a free phone consultation.
Foot health is for anyone with a skin or nail problem on their feet. That includes people with stubborn corns, hard skin or cracked heels, people with nail or verruca problems, parents worried about a child's skin or nails and older patients who want routine foot care. If your concern is pain in a joint, tendon or muscle, such as heel pain, that is one for our MSK team rather than a foot health appointment.
For your first foot health appointment, allow up to 60 minutes. This gives us enough time for a thorough history, examination and treatment in the same visit. Follow-up treatments are typically up to 30 minutes for the vast majority of cases. We'll confirm the exact length when you book.
It depends on the problem. Many issues can be resolved in a single appointment, such as removing a corn or treating an ingrown nail. Stubborn problems like fungal nails or verrucas typically need a course of 3 to 6 treatments spaced a few weeks apart. Ongoing needs such as diabetic foot care and routine nail care usually mean a visit every few months. Your foot health practitioner will give you a clear timeline at your first appointment.
Most foot health treatment is comfortable. Routine work (removing corns and calluses, cutting nails, treating fungal infections) is essentially painless. Some treatments (such as stronger verruca treatments) can feel sore for a day or two afterwards and we'll always explain exactly what to expect before going ahead.
No. You can book a foot health appointment directly with us with no GP referral needed. We can write to your GP after your appointment if there's anything they should know.
Wear something comfortable with socks and shoes that are easy to take off. Bring the shoes you wear most often, as footwear is often part of the picture with corns, hard skin and nail problems. If you've had any test results related to your feet, bring those too. Otherwise just bring yourself.
Foot Health is available at our Great Dunmow clinic at 12 Stortford Road, CM6 1DA. The clinic has on-site disabled parking available on request. Just give us a call ahead of your appointment.
No. Our foot health practitioners look after the skin and nails of the feet only: corns, hard skin, cracked heels, verrucas, fungal nails, ingrown toenails and routine diabetic foot care. Plantar fasciitis, heel pain, Achilles problems and Morton's neuroma are joint, tendon and muscle conditions, so they are treated by our MSK team. If that is what you need, please book with one of our MSK practitioners, not a foot health appointment. You can read more on our foot and heel pain page, or book an MSK appointment at our Great Dunmow clinic.
Location
