- Want Regular Routine Care?
Want a regular routine appointment to keep your feet comfortable and well-maintained?
Does this describe you or someone you care for? If so, you’re in the right place. Routine foot and nail care is one of the most rewarding things we do. We see patients of all ages but particularly enjoy looking after older adults who deserve kind, unhurried, professional care to keep their feet comfortable. Most patients see us every 6 to 8 weeks for ongoing maintenance.
The Reality of Routine Nail Care That Most Sufferers Don't Realise...
- Your Feet Are Out of Reach
Bending down isn’t what it used to be. Your back protests. Your hips object. Getting close enough to see your nails properly, let alone cut them safely, has become an ordeal. What used to be a 5-minute job is now an event you keep putting off.
- You Don't Want to Risk It
Maybe you’ve nicked yourself before. Maybe you have diabetes and know you shouldn’t take chances. Maybe your eyesight isn’t what it was. Cutting your own nails has gone from routine to risky. You want someone qualified to do it properly and safely.
- You Want to Feel Looked After
A regular podiatry appointment isn’t just nail care. It’s 30 minutes where someone takes time to look after you, chat about how things are and send you away with comfortable feet and a smile. Many of our regular patients look forward to it as a small, kind ritual in their week.
Here at Hellier Health, we understand the frustration.
It’s why we created The Dunmow Routine Nail Care Service.
It combines Routine Nail Care, to address routine nail care directly.
How Does The Routine Nail Care Programme Work?
Your appointment starts with a brief, friendly chat about your feet and any concerns. We check the condition of your nails and skin, look for anything that needs attention beyond routine care and then carry out the trim, file and any gentle skin work needed. You'll leave with comfortable, well-cared-for feet.
Your treatment plan is put into action with the right combination of techniques for your specific condition. Most sessions take up to 30 minutes. For longer procedures we book a dedicated appointment.
Beyond symptom relief, the focus is on keeping the problem from coming back. We'll give you a clear at-home routine, footwear advice and self-care guidance so your feet stay healthy. Many patients see us regularly for ongoing care.

Three Common Presentations of Routine Nail Care We Successfully Treat
Regular trim, file and basic skin care for healthy feet that just need ongoing maintenance. Suitable for anyone who finds home nail care difficult.
Each appointment includes nail cutting, smoothing rough edges, gentle removal of any minor callus, moisturising and a friendly chat about how your feet are doing.
Most patients come every 6 to 8 weeks. You'll leave with comfortable, tidy, well-maintained feet.
Routine foot and nail care specifically tailored for patients with diabetes. Extra care around sensation, circulation and infection risk.
We use sterile instruments, take extra time to check for any developing issues (small breaks in skin, signs of pressure, callus build-up) and give you any specific advice to keep you safe between appointments.
Diabetic foot complications are far less likely with regular professional foot care — this is one of the highest-impact preventive things you can do.
For patients with very thick, distorted or fungal-infected nails, severe callus or other complex foot care needs that go beyond simple maintenance.
We use specialist nail-thinning equipment, sterile instruments and an unhurried approach to safely manage even the most challenging nails.
Complex cases often start with a longer first appointment to bring things back to a manageable state, then move into regular maintenance.

How Does The Routine Nail Care Programme Work?
Focused routine nail care can help treat routine nail care by addressing the root cause of routine nail care directly.
It works by delivering routine nail cares that stimulate the body’s natural healing response to address the underlying problem.
Regular routine care also catches developing problems early — a small callus, a tiny crack, a nail starting to ingrow. Catching these things early stops them becoming bigger problems.

Elaine TerryTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was lucky enough to see Charlotte about my old lady knees that have been dreadful lately and was fully expecting her to inform me that they need replacing. Instead she calmly and informatively explained what is going on and that by doing the exercises she fully demonstrated and got me to try and with regular ultrasound scans, I should regain full mobility with minimum pain. I will admit I was not particularly looking forward to the session, but after spending the time with Charlotte and having my questions answered thoroughly and being calmly advised, I am really hopeful that together we can help ensure I walk tall and hobble no more! Beth CracknellTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have appointments here and it’s been a brilliant service, 8 years of pain from a car accident and 2 sessions of shockwave therapy and I can feel the difference! vincent thompsonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent service from Charlotte following a hip replacement which got me back to normal in record time. Many thanks. A course of 6 sessions of shock wave therapy from Charlotte & Jason has made huge improvements. I'm back walking the golf course and largely untroubled by what was previously a chronic problem. I’ve had 4 consultations with Charlotte due to my Knee and Plantar Fasciitis issues. So far, both are improving nicely Charlotte is both very knowledgable and friendly and manages to put one at ease with her easy going nature. Also impressed with the appointment reminders and the whole set up. I would certainly recommend to anyone Thanks Andy Goodey Rayne Braintree Tony & Diane BakerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My practitioner Charlotte, has continued the good work of this practice. Her observations of my stance and her listening capacity seem as important as the therapy she applies. In all these applied skills, find me at last in a good place. I have recommended her to my wife Diane and to a dear friend Shirley after a nasty fall in Spain. All will recommend Charlotte as their preferred Osteopath.. Grateful thanks. A. L. Baker. EA BTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was assessed and by Charlotte who was really thorough and showed full understanding of my issue. Her treatment plan for me included shockwave therapy and exercises for me to do at home. I had sought help for plantar fasciitis from other professionals but Charlotte was by far the most thorough. I had 3 sessions and it has made a world of difference. I have recommended her to friends and I wouldn’t hesitate to seek her help again. Scott HTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. After a big block of training I got a really stubborn knee injury that just didn’t seem to go away for months. I went to Great Dunmow Osteopathy & Health and did their knee pain programme which included focused shockwave therapy. I couldn’t believe how quickly the pain started to go away. Frequently Asked Questions
About The Treatment
Routine nail care is for anyone who finds home foot care difficult or unsafe. The most common reasons are: reduced mobility making it hard to reach the feet, poor eyesight, conditions like arthritis, Parkinson's or stroke affecting hand dexterity, diabetes or circulation problems making home nail cutting risky, thick or hard-to-cut nails and simply preferring professional care to keep feet in great shape.
Most patients come every 6 to 8 weeks for routine maintenance. Some patients with very fast-growing nails or specific needs come monthly. We'll recommend the right frequency for you at your first appointment based on your nails, skin and any underlying conditions.
Yes. Podiatrist and chiropodist are essentially the same profession — "podiatrist" is the more modern term used by professionally registered foot specialists. Our podiatrist is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the UK's professional regulator.
We don't currently offer home visits. The clinic is fully accessible with on-site disabled parking available on request. We can recommend a colleague who offers home visits if attending the clinic isn't possible.
Patients with diabetes especially benefit from regular professional foot care. We tailor the appointment to be diabetic-safe: sterile instruments, careful checking for any developing issues and extra time on prevention. Regular podiatry care significantly reduces the risk of diabetic foot complications. Tell us at booking so we allow appropriate time.
We can manage even the most challenging nails — thickened, fungal, distorted, ingrowing. We use specialist nail-thinning equipment that home tools simply can't match. The first appointment may take a bit longer to bring things back to a comfortable state, then we move into regular maintenance.
Routine nail care is painless and most patients find it relaxing. We work gently and check in with you throughout. If we identify anything that may be uncomfortable (rare in routine care) we'll explain it beforehand and ask before proceeding.
Yes, of course. Many of our regulars are accompanied by family members. We're happy for you to sit with your relative if you'd like to or wait in our reception if they're comfortable on their own. Just let us know at booking so we can welcome you both properly.
Please see our prices page for current fees. We accept payment by card, cash or bank transfer at the appointment.
No. You can book directly with us. We can write to your GP after the appointment to share findings if you'd like us to.
Just yourself and the shoes you usually wear. If you have diabetes, bring details of your recent HbA1c or any concerns flagged by your diabetes team. If you've had previous foot care elsewhere, let us know what you've been having done. Otherwise no preparation needed — turn up clean and comfortable.
For your first appointment, allow up to 60 minutes. This gives us enough time for a thorough history, examination and treatment in the same visit. Follow-up treatments are typically up to 30 minutes for the vast majority of cases. We'll confirm the exact length when you book.
No. You can book a podiatry appointment directly with us with no GP referral needed. We can write to your GP after your appointment if there's anything they should know.
Wear something comfortable that's easy to roll up to the knee. Bring the shoes you wear most often (we'll often look at how they're wearing for biomechanical clues). If you've had any imaging or test results related to your feet, bring those too. Otherwise just bring yourself.
Podiatry & chiropody is available at our Great Dunmow clinic at 12 Stortford Road, CM6 1DA. The clinic has on-site disabled parking available on request. Just give us a call ahead of your appointment.
