What Is Shockwave Therapy?

Focused shockwave therapy is a highly effective, non-invasive treatment for stubborn or chronic musculoskeletal pain, helping to restart the body’s natural healing process. By delivering high-energy sound waves deep into the affected tissue, it breaks the cycle of inflammation and promotes recovery at a deeper level…

How Do Our Shockwave Programmes Work?

Your Shockwave Assessment

We carry out a thorough assessment to understand your pain, identify the root cause, and determine if focused shockwave therapy is right for you. You’ll leave with a clear, personalised treatment plan for your recovery.

Step 1
Targeted Shockwave Treatment

Your treatment plan is then put into action using focused shockwave therapy alongside hands-on treatment where needed. This combined approach targets the injured tissue, reduces pain, and stimulates healing at a deeper level.

Step 2
Long Term Recovery & Resilience

Beyond pain relief, we focus on long-term results. You’ll be guided through a structured rehabilitation plan designed to restore strength, improve movement, and prevent the issue from returning - so you can stay active, confident, and pain-free.

Professional, friendly and very helpful. I’m kept informed of appointments. I have been going for sometime and each time I have been treated respectfully and offered information on my body function and exercises that will help. A great team.

"...can't I just get this on the NHS for free?"

Focused shockwave therapy is not routinely available through the NHS or GP referral pathways. If treatment is provided, it is typically radial shockwave, which is a less targeted treatment than focused shockwave therapy. NHS pathways can involve lengthy and unpredictable waiting times before specialist treatment is available. In contrast, we can typically complete a full structured course of treatment in under 60 days.

If you’re concerned about cost, we aim to make treatment as accessible as possible. Our shockwave programmes are already more cost-effective than booking individual sessions, and we also offer flexible payment options to help spread the cost. Our priority is ensuring that financial concerns don’t prevent you from getting the care you need.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We're here to help!

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy sound waves delivered to injured or painful tissues to stimulate healing, improve blood flow, and reduce pain. It is most commonly used for stubborn conditions like plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, and other chronic tendon or soft tissue problems that have not responded to standard care.

Most clinics use Radial Shockwave, which only works on shallow tissue, often feels like a painful “thumping,” and delivers limited results. We use Focused Shockwave - the gold standard - which targets deeper tissue precisely, is more effective, far more comfortable, and available in only a handful of advanced clinics like ours.

Yes. Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment with an excellent safety record. Most patients return to normal activity the same day.

Shockwave therapy is most effective for stubborn tendon and soft tissue problems such as plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, shoulder calcification, and other injuries that haven’t improved with standard treatment.

Most patients need between 3–6 sessions, depending on the condition and how long it has been present. Many notice improvement after justa couple of treatments, with full benefits building over the course of treatment.

So far we only offer Focused Shockwave Therapy at our clinic in Dunmow. If you are interested in the service however you can enquire at our Royston clinic and undertake treatment in Great Dunmow.
