What is Sciatica?

Sciatica is a painful condition caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve – the longest nerve in the body, which runs from the lower back through the hips and buttocks and down each leg. This irritation often leads to pain, tingling, numbness, or weakness that can radiate from the lower back into the leg and sometimes as far as the foot.

Common causes include a herniated disc, bone spurs, spinal stenosis, or tight muscles pressing on the nerve. Symptoms can range from occasional discomfort to persistent, severe pain that interferes with daily life. While sciatica is common, it signals an underlying issue that needs to be addressed to prevent it from becoming chronic.

Relieving Your Pain

Our knowledgeable and experienced practitioners will carry out a thorough assessment and produce a treatment plan tailored to your specific circumstances, injury and goals. We use a primarily hands on approach to get you out of pain and back on the road to recovery.

Step 1
The Latest Technology

Shockwave therapy is a targeted, non-invasive treatment for tendon irritation and calcification, often used when other treatments haven’t worked. We’ve invested in the latest Focused Shockwave technology to give patients an advanced solution for stubborn conditions.

Step 2

Each treatment aims to gently and progressively get you moving again without pain, as quickly as possible, to allow you to get back to feeling like you again. We give you a structured rehabilitation exercise program to help break the cycle and prevent the problem from returning.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We're here to help!

Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve, which runs from the lower back through the legs, becomes compressed or irritated. This often leads to pain, numbness, or tingling sensations that can extend down one or both legs. The pain can vary in intensity, from a mild ache to a sharp, burning sensation, making it difficult to perform everyday activities.

Our team focuses on relieving nerve pressure, reducing muscle tension, and restoring mobility. Hands-on treatment, targeted exercises, and postural advice all work together to ease pain and prevent flare-ups.

For stubborn or long-term cases, we also provide focused shockwave therapy, which stimulates deep healing and helps break the cycle of nerve irritation and inflammation.

In some cases, mild sciatica may improve with rest and gentle movement. However, when pain persists for more than a couple of weeks or keeps coming back, professional treatment is the best way to resolve the underlying problem and stop it becoming chronic.

Recovery time depends on the cause and severity. Some people feel relief within a few weeks, while others with more persistent cases may need several months of treatment and rehabilitation. With the right care, most people make a full recovery and return to normal activity.

Yes - maintaining good posture, staying active, and strengthening the core muscles all help protect the lower back and reduce the risk of sciatica. Our team can provide tailored exercises and lifestyle advice to help prevent future flare-ups.
