Looking For Perinatal Care in Dunmow or Royston?

Perinatal care with longer one-to-one sessions, continuity of the same clinician, and tailored support beyond what standard NHS appointments provide.

Why Birth and Breastfeeding Support Matters More Than Ever

Many NHS maternity units are under severe pressure, with 87% of midwives reporting they don’t have safe staffing levels. Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first 6 months of a baby’s life, yet only about 24% of babies in the UK are still exclusively breastfed by just 6 weeks.

Back in the 1920s, around 80% of women gave birth at home, naturally. Today it’s closer to half of that! Only 43% of NHS births now happen naturally,  without interventions like inductions or caesareans and that number has been dropping every year for the last decade. This change is not normal and it highlights the real gaps in the support you and your family may receive during pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period.

Perinatal care is about you. It’s focused on preparing you for birth and supporting you in the early postnatal weeks, giving you continuity and personalised guidance that go far beyond what you usually get through the NHS.

From the very beginning, you’ll have someone by your side who listens to your needs, helps you plan for the birth you want, and advocates for your choices during maternity care. Together, we’ll work through the key decisions before and after delivery so you feel informed, confident, and supported throughout pregnancy, birth, and those first days with your baby.

You’ll get clear education around your birth options, practical breastfeeding support, and hands-on help in the first 30 days after your baby arrives. Every appointment gives you the time and space to ask questions, raise concerns, and feel heard.

Most importantly, you’ll have the same person with you from planning through to postnatal life. No handovers, no fragmented care – just consistent support so you and your baby feel cared for every step of the way.

HOW IT WORKS

The 3-Step Support Plan for Pregnancy, Birth and the First 30 Days

Your First Appointment

At your first appointment, we take time to understand your journey, your dream birth and any concerns you may have. This allows us to create a personalised plan tailored to your preferences.

Step 1
Antenatal

Together, we’ll prepare for your preferred birth options, provide advocacy and guidance through maternity care, pregnancy and support you with practical tools for birth.

Step 2
Postnatal

With consistent care, you won’t face the postnatal period alone. Our focus is on giving you confidence, reassurance and clear guidance - helping you to feel informed, supported and ready for the first 30 days with your baby.

Step 3

How we can help you...

Work with us to create a clear, practical birth plan that sets out your preferences for labour and delivery, giving you confidence and something concrete to share with your maternity team.

Have someone by your side to make sure your voice is heard. We’ll help you understand your options and support your choices in conversations with midwives and doctors.

Learn how to safely express and store colostrum before birth – giving your baby the best first food and a head start if early feeding is challenging.

Get hands-on guidance with positioning, latch and feeding techniques to make breastfeeding more comfortable and successful in those crucial first weeks.

Natural labour techniques designed to reduce adrenaline, improve oxygen flow, and support a smoother, more efficient labour.

Practical and emotional support in the first weeks at home – from feeding and settling your baby to helping you rest and recover.

FREQUENTLY ASKED PERINATAL CARE QUESTIONS

We're here to help!

Perinatal care offers support during pregnancy, birth, and the first month after your baby arrives. This includes birth planning, advocacy during maternity care, breastfeeding guidance, and practical and emotional help in the early days at home.

NHS care is often limited by short appointments and a lack of continuity between clinicians. Perinatal care provides longer, one-to-one sessions with the same practitioner throughout, giving you more time to explore concerns, understand your choices, and feel supported at every stage.

Perinatal care is for anyone who wants extra support in preparing for birth and adjusting to life with a newborn. Whether it’s your first baby or not, it helps you feel informed, confident, and reassured, with consistent guidance that complements your NHS maternity care.

I was lucky enough to see Charlotte about my old lady knees that have been dreadful lately and was fully expecting her to inform me that they need replacing. Instead she calmly and informatively explained what is going on and that by doing the exercises she fully demonstrated and got me to try and with regular ultrasound scans, I should regain full mobility with minimum pain. I will admit I was not particularly looking forward to the session, but after spending the time with Charlotte and having my questions answered thoroughly and being calmly advised, I am really hopeful that together we can help ensure I walk tall and hobble no more!

I have appointments here and it’s been a brilliant service, 8 years of pain from a car accident and 2 sessions of shockwave therapy and I can feel the difference!

I struggled with plantar fasciitis for four months. A course of 6 sessions of shock wave therapy from Charlotte & Jason has made huge improvements. I'm back walking the golf course and largely untroubled by what was previously a chronic problem. I've received great care and treatment and would be happy to recommend.

My practitioner Charlotte, has continued the good work of this practice. Her observations of my stance and her listening capacity seem as important as the therapy she applies. In all these applied skills, find me at last in a good place. I have recommended her to my wife Diane and to a dear friend Shirley after a nasty fall in Spain. All will recommend Charlotte as their preferred Osteopath.. Grateful thanks. A. L. Baker.

I was assessed and by Charlotte who was really thorough and showed full understanding of my issue. Her treatment plan for me included shockwave therapy and exercises for me to do at home. I had sought help for plantar fasciitis from other professionals but Charlotte was by far the most thorough. I had 3 sessions and it has made a world of difference. I have recommended her to friends and I wouldn’t hesitate to seek her help again.

I’m 18 and a keen runner. After a big block of training I got a really stubborn knee injury that just didn’t seem to go away for months. I went to Great Dunmow Osteopathy & Health and did their knee pain programme which included focused shockwave therapy. I couldn’t believe how quickly the pain started to go away. That combined with a rehabilitation exercise programme Charlotte gave me meant I was pain free and back to running in just a few weeks! If you are in pain don’t waste anymore time, these guys will get you fixed very quickly.
